Bihar elections heat up as Modi, Rahul trade barbs in high-voltage campaign

Bihar elections: The Bihar Assembly election campaign has reached fever pitch, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressing massive rallies on Sunday, setting the stage for a fierce political showdown ahead of the first phase of polling.

At a rally in Ara, Prime Minister Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress and its ally, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), accusing the grand old party of succumbing to political blackmail. “Congress was never ready to project Tejashwi Yadav as the Chief Ministerial candidate. But it bowed under RJD’s threat,” Modi alleged, claiming that the Congress had “a gun placed on its head” to accept RJD’s leadership.

He predicted internal conflict between the two parties after the polls, saying, “After the election, they will end up fighting each other. Such alliances bring no good to Bihar.” Modi exuded confidence that the NDA will return to power with a thumping majority, continuing its mission of building a “developed Bihar for a developed India.”

He further attacked the opposition by recalling the “jungle raj” era, asserting that the people of Bihar “have not forgotten the lawlessness under RJD” and that they will ensure its worst-ever defeat.

Meanwhile, in Begusarai, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP and RSS of “stealing elections” in states like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh. He alleged that the Election Commission had deliberately removed names of Mahagathbandhan supporters from the voters’ list in Bihar.

Gandhi mocked the Prime Minister’s campaign style, saying, “Modi will do anything for votes — from yoga poses to dancing on stage. But once the elections are over, he only works for his industrialist friends.”

He claimed the INDIA bloc’s government would serve all sections of society, not just one caste or class. Gandhi accused Modi of diverting youth attention from unemployment by “asking them to watch reels instead of asking questions.”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge joined the attack, saying, “BJP and JD(U) have robbed Bihar’s youth of every opportunity for the past 20 years — now it’s time for change.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in a separate rally, warned that if Tejashwi Yadav became Chief Minister, “three new departments would be created to manage kidnapping, extortion, and murder cases.”

PM Modi also targeted Congress over the ‘Operation Sindhur’ strikes on terrorist hideouts in Pakistan, claiming the Congress leadership “lost sleep” when Indian soldiers bombed terror camps. “The Congress and Pakistan have still not recovered from the shock of the Sindhur operation,” he said.

Responding sharply, Rahul Gandhi alleged that Modi “boasts of a 56-inch chest but trembles before Donald Trump and his corporate bosses Ambani and Adani,” claiming that “India’s remote control is in the hands of billionaires.”
