CM DK Shivakumar cabinet first wicket fall: Ramalinga Reddy Resigns
Holding a crucial press conference at his Koramangala office in Bengaluru, Ramalinga Reddy openly revealed the real reasons behind his resignation.
In a major political development in the state, the first wicket has fallen shortly after DK Shivakumar assumed office as Chief Minister and allocated portfolios to his cabinet ministers. Deeply disgruntled over not receiving the Bengaluru Development portfolio, Ramalinga Reddy announced his resignation from his ministerial post on Friday morning.
Holding a crucial press conference at his Koramangala office in Bengaluru, Ramalinga Reddy openly revealed the real reasons behind his resignation. “I am not resigning solely because I was allocated the Water Resources Department. The current Chief Minister had previously promised me that he would give me the Bengaluru Urban Development portfolio. However, he has not kept his word. The public needs to know the truth behind this,” Reddy stated.
‘No anger against anyone, will remain in Congress’:
Clarifying his political stance, Reddy emphasized that he harbors no personal animosity toward the party leadership. No Personal Grudge: “I have no personal anger against Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar or Siddaramaiah. I just want people to know the truth about why I resigned.”
“I have been working as a loyal worker in the Congress party for the last 53 years. The party has given me ample opportunities. I have resigned from the ministerial post, not from the Congress party. I have never resigned from Congress in my life, nor will I do so in the future.”
Reflecting on his long political career, Reddy noted that he has been elected as an MLA eight consecutive times. He first served as a minister in Veerappa Moily’s cabinet and later served twice as a minister under Siddaramaiah.
“I have a history of efficiently handling all the departments previously assigned to me. I have never approached any Chief Minister asking to be made a minister or demanding a specific portfolio. Even this time, I did not place any demand before Shivakumar or the high command,” Reddy said.
He concluded by shedding light on the unfulfilled promise: “Previously, DK Shivakumar had promised me, ‘I will become the Chief Minister after two and a half years, and at that time, I will hand over the Bengaluru Urban Development portfolio, which is currently with me, to you.’ But now, I have been given the Water Resources portfolio.”
