DK Shivakumar’s remark linking Bihar polls to his political rise fuels speculation in Karnataka Congress
DK Shivakumar: Amid intense speculation over power-sharing within the Karnataka Congress, a cryptic statement by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar during his interaction with Bihar residents in Bengaluru has stirred political curiosity. Addressing the gathering, Shivakumar said, “If you bring the Mahagathbandhan to power in Bihar, it’s as good as giving me every position here.”
The remark has triggered fresh debates within the party, as discussions on possible cabinet expansion, reshuffle, and leadership changes continue to swirl. Sources say Shivakumar’s supporters have set an internal “deadline” for his elevation, possibly after the Bihar elections scheduled for November 6 and 11.
Meeting thousands of Biharis living in Bengaluru, Shivakumar urged them to support the Mahagathbandhan alliance in the upcoming state polls. When the community leaders expressed their wish to see him become Chief Minister, Shivakumar smiled and replied that their victory in Bihar would be his victory in Karnataka.
Meanwhile, Housing and Waqf Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, speaking in Hubballi, dismissed the leadership speculation, asserting, “Siddaramaiah will remain Chief Minister till 2028. He has full support of all MLAs. After that, D.K. Shivakumar should become CM — that is my wish.”
Adding to the intrigue, Minister Satish Jarkiholi has also embarked on a “Delhi mission,” reportedly to meet AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge and other senior Congress leaders. His visit follows that of Shivakumar, and comes amid murmurs about AHINDA (minorities, backward classes, Dalits) leadership claims within the party.
As opposition leader R. Ashoka remarked, “We don’t even know if this government will survive after November,” the Congress high command is expected to step in soon. The political stage in Karnataka is clearly heating up, with Bihar’s results now being watched for possible ripples in Bengaluru’s power corridors.
