Delhi Police issue notice to KPCC leader Inayat Ali in National Herald case
Mangaluru: As part of the ongoing investigation into the National Herald case, the Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has issued a notice to KPCC general secretary and Mangaluru leader Inayat Ali.
This development comes a day after similar notices were served to KPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and his brother, Bengaluru Rural MP D.K. Suresh.
A team of EOW officers visited Inayat Ali’s residence in Surathkal, Mangaluru, on Friday and handed over the notice. The summons has been issued in the name of his firm, Ocean Constructions, directing him to appear before the investigators within a week and provide detailed explanations regarding certain financial transactions.
Speaking to reporters about the development, Inayat Ali said, “During the investigation into the National Herald case in 2016, the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax Department had already sought financial details of the company run by me and my brother. The fresh notice appears to be a continuation of that earlier inquiry.”
The National Herald case stems from a private complaint filed in 2014 by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, alleging criminal conspiracy involving senior Congress leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda, Young Indian Pvt. Ltd., and several other political functionaries.
The complaint accuses the leaders of financial irregularities, misappropriation and unlawful acquisition of assets belonging to the National Herald newspaper.
Inayat Ali, considered a close aide of D.K. Shivakumar, had contested the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections as the Congress candidate from the Mangaluru North constituency, where he lost to BJP’s Dr. Y. Bharath Shetty.
With fresh notices being issued to prominent Congress leaders, the National Herald case has once again triggered political debate in Karnataka, even as the investigation continues to gather pace.
