School academic calendar for 2026-27 announced in Karnataka

Bengaluru : The Karnataka School Education and Literacy Department has announced the academic calendar for the 2026–27 academic year, outlining the schedule for government, aided, and unaided primary and secondary schools following the state syllabus.
According to the official notification, the new academic year will commence from May 29, 2026, across all state syllabus schools. The department has also released a detailed annual action plan specifying instructional days, holidays, and co-curricular activities to ensure uniform implementation of academic programs across the state.
A total of 245 working days have been scheduled for the academic year. The Dasara holidays will be observed from October 3 to October 21, 2026, while the summer vacation will begin from April 11, 2027. The academic year will be divided into two terms — the first term from May 29 to October 2, and the second term from October 22 to April 10, 2027.
The department has directed that the distribution of uniforms and textbooks for students should be completed by the first week of June 2027. Additionally, emphasis has been placed on enrolment drives to bring back out-of-school children into the education system. Authorities have been instructed to complete the student admission process by June 30, 2026, and conduct special awareness campaigns targeting children aged between 6 and 18 years who have dropped out of school.
Out of the total 365 days in the year, 119 days have been earmarked as holidays, while 245 days are designated as working days. Of these, 181 days are allocated for teaching and learning activities. Around 26 days have been reserved for examinations and assessments, 24 days for co-curricular activities, and 10 days for evaluation and result analysis. Additionally, four days have been set aside for local school holidays.
The department stated that the structured academic calendar is aimed at ensuring consistency in teaching schedules and improving learning outcomes across Karnataka. Officials have been instructed to strictly implement and monitor adherence to the calendar in all schools under the state syllabus.
