A school holiday has been announced for several taluks in the Chikkamagaluru district on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, due to the heavy rainfall alert. The decision was made by the district administration as a precautionary measure, following a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the region. The holiday applies to all anganwadis, primary, and high schools in the taluks of Koppa, Sringeri, Mudigere, Kalasa, N.R. Pura
Schools and anganwadis in the hoblis (sub-taluks) of Avathi, Jagara, Vastare, Alduru, Khandya, all of which are in Chikkamagaluru taluk. This is part of a broader trend of school closures in coastal and Malnad regions of Karnataka, where heavy rains have disrupted normal life and raised concerns about flooding and landslides.

A red alert has been issued for the following districts, indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rain in Udupi, Uttara Kannada, and Dakshina Kannada and Belagavi.
Orange Alert (Very Heavy Rainfall):
An orange alert, which signifies very heavy rainfall, has been issued for:
Malnad Region: Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, and Kodagu.
North Interior Karnataka: Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag.
In response to these alerts, several districts have already declared school holidays for August 19 as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students. Fishermen have also been advised not to venture into the sea due to squally weather conditions.
