Due to high rainfall in Udupi district orange alert has been declared and holiday declared for all the Anganwadis, primary, high school and PUC colleges on Tuesday, August 4.

The disaster management authority has taken certain precautions as heavy rain has been pounding the district for the last couple of days.

Holiday has been declared for Anganwadis, primary and high schools (including CBSE) in Udupi district including government, aided and unaided private schools and all pre-university colleges. Parents are asked to ensure that children do not go to low lying areas, lakes, sea shore and river sides.

Heavy rainfall continues across the coastal and Malnad regions of Karnataka. Rain is expected to persist in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and other Malnad districts. Wind speeds in these areas are likely to range between 30 and 40 km/h.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall is expected at a few places in the districts of Bagalkote, Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, and Yadgir. These districts may also experience strong winds with speeds of 40–50 km/h.
