RSS Ban: Opposition Chief Whip in the Karnataka Legislative Council, N. Ravikumar, on Sunday questioned Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s demand to ban the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), asking whether Kharge had ever sought a ban on extremist outfits like the Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).
In a press statement, Ravikumar condemned Kharge’s remarks against the RSS and accused the Congress government of withdrawing criminal cases filed against members of the PFI and SDPI. “Instead of banning such anti-national organizations, the Congress government dropped cases against them. These groups were behind the killings of several Hindu activists in coastal Karnataka and Kerala,” he said.
He also recalled the 2020 DJ Halli and KG Halli riots in Bengaluru, where police stations and vehicles were torched, alleging that members of these same organizations were involved. “Kharge should question his own party for withdrawing those cases instead of targeting the RSS,” he added.
Ravikumar defended the RSS as an organization that has “worked for a century for the unity, integrity, cultural resurgence, and social harmony of the nation.” Calling Kharge’s demand to ban it “not just ironic but a distortion of truth,” he said the Congress leadership was trying to malign an organization committed to national service.
