Offer Rs 5 lakh to Hindu men who marry Muslim girl: Yatnal
Basangouda Patil Yatnal, a BJP MLA from Bijapur City in Karnataka, has announced that he would launch a campaign to offer a cash incentive of Rs 5 lakh to Hindu men who marry Muslim women. He made these remarks on Sunday, August 10, while visiting the family of a slain youth in Koppal.
Yatnal’s statement comes in the context of the murder of Gavisiddappa Nayak, a 26-year-old from the Valmiki community, who was reportedly killed for being in a relationship with a Muslim woman.
Yatnal claimed that the government is only for Muslims and that he would launch this campaign to “give a fitting reply” to those who kill Hindus. He also alleged that the government provides protection to minorities in “love jihad” cases.

This is not the first time Yatnal, a known Hindutva leader, has made controversial statements. He has previously faced criticism and legal action for his remarks on interfaith marriages and other issues. It’s important to note that Yatnal was expelled from the BJP for six years in March 2025 for “anti-party” remarks and has indicated the possibility of launching his own “Hindu party” in the state.
