Big Update: There has been a lot of speculation and buzz in Karnataka political circles regarding potential leadership changes within the BJP, including the position of the Leader of Opposition (LoP), currently held by R. Ashoka. R Ashok change from opposition leader, only announcement pending.

Reports indicate that there is considerable speculation about a shake-up in the Karnataka BJP unit, including the state party president and key posts like the LoP. This comes amid signs of internal discontent and a desire to strengthen the party against the ruling Congress.

R. Ashoka’s Stance:

R. Ashoka himself has publicly dismissed speculation about his removal. He has stated that there have been no discussions about changing the LoP post and that he is performing well and enjoys the confidence of party MLAs. He also mentioned that his recent visits to Delhi were routine to submit quarterly reports to the party high command.

B.Y. Vijayendra’s Defense:

B.Y. Vijayendra, the current Karnataka BJP President, has also publicly defended R. Ashoka, stating that Ashoka is doing a “very good job” as the Opposition leader and that “there is no truth” to media speculation about his removal.

The performance of both Vijayendra and Ashoka is reportedly “under the scanner” of the central leadership for “putting up a weak front” against the Congress. However, a large section within the state BJP believes the leadership might not risk dislodging Vijayendra (due to his Lingayat community support through his father B.S. Yediyurappa), while there appears to be some uncertainty about Ashoka’s continuance despite him being from the Vokkaliga community.

While some dissenting MLAs have been expelled, internal differences reportedly persist within the party. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has been tasked with addressing these concerns.

In essence, while there’s significant talk and speculation in the media and political circles about a possible change in the LoP post for the Karnataka BJP, no official decision or announcement has been made yet. Both R. Ashoka and the state BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra have publicly denied that such a change is imminent. The final decision rests with the BJP’s central high command.
