Yathindra Siddaramaiah triggers fresh row, calls Chief Election Commissioner a “political agent”

Yathindra Siddaramaiah: Congress MLA and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah‘s son Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah, already under fire for his controversial “succession” remarks, has now courted yet another controversy by calling the Chief Election Commissioner of India a “political agent.”

Speaking at a “Vote Theft Awareness and Signature Campaign” organized by the Congress in the Varuna constituency, Yathindra lashed out at the Election Commission, accusing it of acting in a partisan manner. “The Chief Election Commissioner is behaving like a political agent. Instead of taking action against those who have stolen votes, he is making political statements,” Yathindra alleged.

He further claimed that Rahul Gandhi had submitted a detailed complaint to the Election Commission, complete with evidence, regarding large-scale vote theft. “Despite that, instead of acting on the complaint, the Chief Election Commissioner is targeting those who exposed the irregularities.

This is nothing short of a character assassination of those who raised their voices,” Yathindra said, referring to Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The remark has drawn sharp reactions from political circles, with opposition leaders accusing Yathindra of “lowering the dignity of a constitutional authority.” BJP leaders have demanded an apology, stating that such statements show the Congress’s growing frustration ahead of the elections.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has not yet responded officially to the remark, but sources indicate that it is closely monitoring the situation given the sensitivity of the comments.

This is the second major controversy involving Yathindra in recent weeks — his earlier statement hinting at “political succession” within the Congress had sparked intense debate within the party, forcing senior leaders to go on the defensive.

Political observers note that Yathindra’s repeated off-the-cuff remarks are proving to be an embarrassment for the Congress, especially at a time when the party is battling internal dissent and facing mounting criticism over governance and electoral credibility.
