K N Rajanna says party high command will decide cm leadership; expresses support for Siddaramaiah

K N Rajanna: Former minister K.N. Rajanna reiterated that in national parties like Congress or BJP, leadership decisions are always made by the high command. Speaking to the media in Tumakuru on Tuesday, Rajanna emphasized that while individual aspirations are natural, the final call rests with party leadership.

“We may have our preferences, whether it’s this person or that, but the high command’s decision is final,” he said. Rajanna expressed his desire for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to continue in his role, stating, “There’s nothing wrong in hoping he remains CM, but ultimately, it’s the high command’s call.”

He drew parallels to past leadership transitions, recalling the time when Veerappa Moily was CM and decisions were similarly made by the Congress high command. “Congress has a legacy of leaders who participated in the freedom struggle. Even Sonia Gandhi declined the Prime Minister’s post. That’s the history of our party,” he added.

Rajanna also praised Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, saying, “Many of us, including myself, hope to see him as Prime Minister someday.”

On the Dharwad High Court’s stay on the state government’s order restricting RSS activities on government premises, Rajanna said, “Once the court has ruled, we cannot question it publicly. The government may appeal to a higher court. Such setbacks are part of governance.”

Regarding cabinet reshuffle speculations, Rajanna clarified that even if the high command approves changes, Siddaramaiah’s leadership will remain unaffected. “It’s been two and a half years. If a reshuffle happens, it won’t mean a change in CM. If not, political activities will continue. I believe Siddaramaiah will remain CM,” he said.

Rajanna concluded by affirming his belief that any leadership change, if necessary, will be decided solely by the high command.
