For the last few years, the Central Government has been giving unprecedented impetus to women empowerment and due to this, the government is bringing different schemes for women. In this article, the central government launched the ‘Lakhpati Didi Yojana’ for women in 2023.

The main objective of this scheme is to promote women in the industrial sector. The government believes that they should be given financial assistance to set up industries to become self-reliant and contribute to the country’s economy.
Through this scheme, the government provides interest-free loans of up to Rs 5 lakh to women. This is a revolutionary initiative where interest-free loans help women start and grow their businesses without any major financial burden. For this, women must fulfill certain specified conditions.
The Lakhpati Didi Scheme is a major effort by the government towards women empowerment. This scheme is being run especially for women belonging to Self Help Groups (SHGs). Through this scheme, women are helped to increase their income.
Also, women are encouraged to become self-employed so that they can not only improve their own employment but also their family’s financial condition. Under the skill development program, women will be trained in various industries like sewing, food processing, handicrafts, digital literacy, etc.

After training, they will be given interest-free loans ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh to start their own business. Under this scheme, the government aims to connect 3 crore women with the Lakhpati Didi Yojana. This is an ambitious goal to boost the rural economy.
Eligibility criteria:
To apply for the Lakhpati Didi Scheme, certain eligibility criteria have been set that women have to meet. The main condition of this scheme is that if a woman applies under this scheme, no member of her family should be in government employment.

Women with an annual income of more than three lakh rupees are not eligible for this scheme. Applicants must be members of a registered self-help group.
How to apply for the scheme:
To apply for the Lakhpati Didi Scheme, women must submit their business plan under the self-help group. This business plan must be clear and feasible. The women, in collaboration with their self-help group, prepare their business plan, which includes what industry they want to work in, how much investment is required, and how to make a profit.
Once the business plan is ready, the self-help group sends the plan to the concerned government department. Government officials will review the application and evaluate the feasibility of the business plan.
