Customers are advised to plan their banking activities in advance to avoid inconvenience, especially for services that require a visit to a bank branch.
Major holidays during the month include Gandhi Jayanti, Mahalaya Amavasya, Maha Navami, Vijayadashami (Dasara), and Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti. Along with the second and fourth Saturdays and four Sundays, these holidays will result in a total of 10 bank holidays during October.
October 2026 Bank Holiday List:
October 2 (Friday): Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti β Banks will remain closed nationwide.
October 10 (Saturday): Mahalaya Amavasya and the Second Saturday β Banks will remain closed.
October 19 (Monday): Maha Navami (Ayudha Puja) β Bank holiday in observance of the Dasara festival.
October 20 (Tuesday): Vijayadashami (Dasara) β Banks will remain closed.
October 26 (Monday): Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti β Bank holiday across Karnataka.

Three Long Weekends in October:
October offers three extended weekends, which could affect branch banking services.
First Long Weekend: October 2 (Friday), Gandhi Jayanti, followed by the weekend beginning October 4 (Sunday), may lead to reduced banking operations in many areas.
Dasara Long Weekend: Banks will remain closed for three consecutive days from October 18 (Sunday) to October 20 (Tuesday), covering Sunday, Maha Navami, and Vijayadashami.
Final Long Weekend: Another three-day break falls from October 24 (Fourth Saturday) to October 26 (Monday), including Sunday and Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti.
Digital Banking Services to Continue:
Although bank branches will remain closed on these holidays, internet banking, mobile banking, UPI, and ATM services will continue to function as usual. However, services such as cheque clearance, demand draft (DD) issuance, KYC updates, cash deposits, and other branch-based transactions will not be available. Bank officials have advised customers to complete such transactions in advance to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
