South Africa and New Zealand will face each other in the first semi-final on March 4. England and India will face each other in the second semi-final on March 5. The 10-over rule has been introduced for these matches.
This means that if the semi-final match is interrupted by rain or if 20 overs cannot be played for some reason, at least 10 overs must be played to decide the result according to the Duckworth-Lewis rule.
Earlier, 5 overs were fixed for the Super-8 round. Now this rule has been increased to 10 overs for the semi-final matches.
Semi-final 10 over rules details:
If the match is interrupted due to rain or any other reason, both teams must bowl 10 overs each to decide the result under the Duckworth-Lewis (DLS) rule. If the team batting first does not complete 10 overs, the second team will not be allowed to bat. That is, a match of less than 10 overs will not be organized. The result will be decided according to the Duckworth-Lewis rule only if both teams bowl at least 10 overs.
There is a reserve day system for both semi-finals and final matches. If the match cannot be played on the scheduled day, the match will continue on the reserve day. An additional 90 minutes will be given on the scheduled day to complete the match.
That is, even if the match is delayed due to rain here, the overs will not be immediately reduced. Instead, 20 overs will be played through the extra 90 minutes. The match will be cancelled only if it is not possible to play 10 overs even on the reserve day. If the semi-final match is cancelled, the team that topped the Super 8 stage points table will qualify directly for the final.
