HONOR Robot Phone Launches in China With 200MP Cameras and Moving Gimbal

HONOR has officially launched its unusual Robot Phone in China, bringing a motorised camera system to a smartphone for the first time in the companys lineup. The device was previously shown publicly at MWC 2026 and is now available as a commercial product.

The cameras are the main attraction. A motorised module sits at the top of the handset and uses three axis mechanical gimbal stabilisation. It can also use AI based subject tracking to adjust the cameras direction while recording, helping keep a moving person inside the frame.

That approach could appeal to vloggers and other content creators who often record themselves without a tripod. Instead of manually adjusting the phone, the camera can follow the subject and make small movements to maintain framing.

HONOR has also partnered with ARRI for the camera system, bringing technology and expertise from the professional filmmaking industry into the phone.

The rear camera setup includes two 200MP sensors. The primary camera uses a 1/1.28 inch CMOS sensor, an f/1.6 aperture and gimbal stabilisation. A second 200MP periscope telephoto camera offers 2.7x optical zoom and up to 200x digital zoom.

A 50MP ultrawide camera with a 122 degree field of view completes the rear setup. For selfies and video calls, the phone has another 50MP camera on the front. The rear camera can record 4K video at up to 120 frames per second, while the front camera supports 4K recording at up to 60 frames per second.

Performance comes from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor paired with an Adreno 840 GPU. The phone can be configured with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of internal storage. It runs on HONORs MagicOS 10 software.

The display is a 6.31 inch OLED panel with a resolution of 1216 by 2640 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. HONOR claims that its peak HDR brightness can reach 6800 nits, putting the display firmly in flagship territory.

Battery capacity is another strong point. The Robot Phone carries a 7060mAh battery and supports 120W wired fast charging along with 50W wireless charging. Wireless reverse charging is also available.

The handset supports 5G, Wi Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC and USB Type C connectivity. Navigation systems include GPS, NavIC, Galileo and GLONASS. Other features include an infrared remote, stereo speakers, four microphones and a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

In China, the Robot Phone starts at 9999 yuan for the version with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. The higher end model with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage is priced at 12999 yuan. These prices are roughly equivalent to Rs 141000 and Rs 183000 respectively.

The phone is available in Moon Shadow Grey and Star Trail Silver. For now, HONOR has only confirmed its launch in China, and there is no official information about an India launch or Indian pricing.
