The directions follow the recommendations of the Justice Michael D’Cunha committee, which was formed after the deadly 2025 stampede. The committee, headed by GBA president Maheshwar Rao, is monitoring compliance by RCB and KSCA.
Authorities have planned a significant police deployment and emphasis on spectator safety as cricket returns to the venue for five matches, including the playoffs. Karnataka will make full safety compliance mandatory at Chinnaswamy Stadium ahead of IPL 2026 matches.
Additional police deployment planned for RCB home matches.Reacting to the decision to host IPL cricket matches at the M. Chinnawamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara said on Wednesday that all safety recommendations will be implemented at the Chinnawamy Stadium before the matches are hosted and additional police will be deployed to ensure that no untoward incident takes place.
The state recently gave conditional approval to host IPL 2026 matches. The stadium will host five home matches of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team. Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Wednesday, HM Parameshwara highlighted how Karnataka is monitoring the arrangements.
“We have given directions to RCB based on the recommendations of the Justice Michael D’Cunha committee. A committee has also been formed under the chairmanship of Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chairman Maheshwar Rao. They have contacted RCB and KSCA and held discussions,” he said.
“Rao has told them that the matches will be allowed only after fulfilling the conditions. I hope they will fulfill all of them before the matches start. The police department is checking it every day. If they have created all the basic infrastructure, our job is that the police will have to make additional security arrangements this time. We have already discussed it,” he said.
Parameshwara said that a sufficient number of police personnel will be deployed around the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to ensure that no untoward incident takes place during the cricket match.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on Tuesday said that it is a good opportunity for cricket to return to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium after continuous efforts. Five matches, including the playoffs and the final, will be held in Bengaluru.
KSCA official spokesperson Vinay Mrutyunjay said the association has worked extensively to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming matches.
“After a lot of effort, cricket is returning to the KSCA. There will be five matches here, including the playoffs and the final,” he said.
He said that a formal agreement will be in place between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise as per the prescribed guidelines.
“We will hand over the stadium to RCB as per the prescribed norms,” he said. Defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore will play five of their matches in the 2026 IPL at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The remaining two matches will be played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.
