Hindu woman and her minor daughter abducted at gunpoint in Sindh, fears of forced conversion rise

Karachi: The alarming rise in the abduction of Hindu women in Pakistan has once again come to light, with a Hindu woman and her minor daughter kidnapped by armed assailants in Karachi’s Sher Shah area on Tuesday. The incident occurred in Sindhi Mohalla, triggering widespread fear among the minority community.
According to preliminary reports, the woman, identified as Rani, was stepping out of her home with her daughter when three armed men forcibly pushed them into an Alto car and fled the scene. Local residents reported the kidnapping to authorities, expressing deep concern over the growing pattern of such targeted crimes against Hindu women in Sindh.
Civil rights activist Shiv Kachi said the victim’s family fears that both mother and daughter may be forcibly converted to Islam and married off to their captors — a recurring atrocity faced by Hindu minorities in the region. “We have filed a complaint, but the manner in which armed men abducted a mother and her minor daughter is extremely disturbing,” Kachi said.
He urged police officials to take the matter seriously, highlighting that numerous Hindu girls and women have been abducted, converted, and forcibly married to much older Muslim men. Kachi further revealed that he had received death threats from groups involved in the forced conversion racket. “I received murder threats over the phone, but I have still filed the complaint,” he added.
In a separate incident in Umarkot, Sindh, armed men attempted to kidnap another married Hindu woman named Bhagwi while she was travelling with her husband. Locals intervened, preventing the abduction attempt.
Such cases echo a similar incident from May 28, where a married Hindu woman was kidnapped, forcibly converted, and married to a Muslim man in a religious centre. Her husband had condemned the act, questioning whether this reflects the justice offered to minorities in Pakistan.
The recurring incidents have reignited concerns about the safety and rights of Hindu minorities in Pakistan’s Sindh province.
