Nitish Kumar takes oath as Chief Minister of Bihar for the tenth time

Nitish Kumar has taken the oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the 10th time on Thursday, November 20, 2025. This record-breaking swearing-in followed the decisive victory of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.

The ceremony was attended by top national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, as a major show of strength for the NDA. Along with Nitish Kumar, several other ministers from the NDA alliance, including two Deputy Chief Ministers from the BJP, Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, were also sworn in.

This swearing-in marks a new term for the NDA in the state, with Nitish Kumar becoming one of India’s longest-serving Chief Ministers. Nitish Kumar has taken oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the tenth time. After the NDA’s landslide victory in the Bihar elections, the time has come to form a new government in the state.

There will be two Deputy Chief Ministers from the BJP quota in the Nitish Kumar government. Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha have once again taken oath as Deputy Chief Ministers in the Nitish Kumar government. The decision on which leaders from which party quota will take oath as ministers in Nitish’s cabinet has also been finalized.

The list of ministers who will take oath as part of Nitish Kumar’s cabinet has also been released. The BJP will have 14 ministers in the new government. Along with CM Nitish, the JD(U) will have seven ministers. The Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) led by Jitan Ram Manjhi and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) led by Upendra Kushwaha will have one minister each.

Jitan Ram Manjhi’s son Santosh Kumar Suman will take oath as a minister from his party and Upendra Kushwaha’s son Deepak Prakash will take oath as a minister from his party. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) led by Chirag Paswan will also have two ministers.

The list of possible ministers has been released. The NDA returned to power by winning 202 seats in the 243-member Bihar Assembly, with the BJP winning 89, JD(U) 85, LJP(RV) 19, HAM 5 and RLM 4.

The 202 MLAs of the alliance parties will complete the formalities of electing Nitish Kumar as their leader. Nitish will then go to Raj Bhavan to stake his claim to form the government.

Nitish Kumar first became the Chief Minister of Bihar after the 2000 elections, but that government later collapsed. In 2005, Nitish became the head of the NDA government for the second time with a majority. He served as the Chief Minister for more than eight consecutive years.
