DMK leader’s life threat against PM Modi sparks uproar in Tamil Nadu

A shocking and controversial statement by a leader of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party has triggered a political storm in Tamil Nadu. The leader, during a protest in the Tenkasi district, made a direct threat against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that they would kill him. This statement has gone viral on social media, stirring significant controversy and outrage in political circles.

The DMK’s South District Secretary, Jayapalan, during the protest, made the incendiary remark comparing Prime Minister Modi to ‘Narakasura,’ a demon from Hindu mythology, suggesting that Modi is desperate to steal votes and has no benefit for Tamil Nadu. “Modi is another Narakasura. He is trying to rob your votes. Tamil Nadu gains nothing from Modi’s visit. We must unite and fight this battle to win,” he stated.

The video of Jayapalan’s statement has since spread rapidly on social media, drawing sharp criticism from political opponents, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Nayanar Nagendran, the Tamil Nadu BJP state president, shared the video on social platforms and demanded immediate arrest of the DMK leader.

“Such statements are unacceptable. Jayapalan should be arrested immediately for making a direct threat to the life of the Prime Minister. It is a serious offense,” he said in a statement.

This political dispute comes on the heels of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Tamil Nadu. After visiting the sacred Sathya Sai Baba Temple in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh, Modi arrived in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, to inaugurate a South Indian Natural Farming summit and disburse the 21st installment of the PM-KISAN funds to farmers.

The incident has not only escalated tensions between the BJP and DMK but has also cast a shadow over the political climate in the state. The threat against the Prime Minister is likely to fuel further hostilities as the state prepares for upcoming elections. DMK leaders have yet to respond to the allegations and criticism, but the controversy continues to dominate the political discourse in Tamil Nadu.
