Hubballi Tahsildar Office Staff Work on Sunday to Clear Pending Files

Hubballi Tahsildar Mahesh Gaste and more than 30 staff members reported for duty on Sunday to clear files that had remained pending during recent election related work.

A Sunday at the Hubballi Tahsildar office turned into a regular working day for more than 30 employees, who reported for duty to clear government files that had accumulated over the past few weeks.

Tahsildar Mahesh Gaste reportedly reached the office around 10 in the morning and began work along with revenue assistants, village accountants, deputy tahsildars and other staff members. The employees spent the day dealing with pending files instead of taking their usual weekly holiday.

The decision to work on a Sunday was linked to the recent Special Intensive Revision process. Staff members had been occupied with SIR related duties for several days, leaving less time for their routine responsibilities at the Tahsildar office.

As a result, several files connected with regular government work had remained pending. The staff decided to use the holiday to reduce the backlog and complete work that had been delayed during the busy period.

What made the situation different was that there was no reported visit by a senior political leader or minister that required the employees to be present. There was also no emergency election assignment mentioned as the reason for the Sunday attendance. The staff came specifically to work through the pending files.

Gaste reportedly requested employees to join him at the office so that the pending work could be completed. More than 30 employees responded and attended voluntarily, according to the report.

The employees included personnel from different sections of the revenue administration. Their work continued through the day, with staff remaining at their respective desks and concentrating on files that had been waiting for disposal.

The timing was also considered useful because the office does not normally receive the same level of public footfall on a Sunday. This allowed employees to concentrate on documentation and administrative work without having to handle the usual flow of visitors.

Staff members had already spent considerable time working on SIR duties. The additional Sunday work meant they were able to return their attention to routine files that had been left behind during that period.

SIR has placed an additional workload on officials involved in voter related duties across Karnataka. The revision process has included verification and other election related responsibilities, requiring revenue and election personnel to spend substantial time on the assignment.

The importance of completing the pending files also goes beyond internal office work. Many revenue department files are connected with services and applications submitted by members of the public. Delays in processing such documents can affect people waiting for government services.

By setting aside a full working day to address the backlog, the Hubballi office staff aimed to bring routine work closer to schedule.

The Sunday attendance also comes at a time when government offices in the Hubballi area have faced increased workloads connected with SIR activities. Recent reports have highlighted difficulties faced by officials and citizens during the revision process, including delays in handling certain voter related matters.

The Hubballi Tahsildar office is part of the district revenue administration, with the official district website listing the Hubballi Urban Tahsildar office among the revenue offices in Dharwad district.

For the employees who attended on Sunday, the immediate priority was to reduce the pending workload rather than wait for normal office hours to resume. The effort also gave staff uninterrupted time to concentrate on files without the regular weekday rush.

The unusual working day has drawn attention because government offices generally remain closed to routine public work on Sundays. In this case, however, the staff chose to use the holiday to address accumulated administrative work.

The move may also provide some relief to officials when regular office operations resume. Clearing older files can allow employees to focus more effectively on new applications and daily responsibilities.

The work carried out by the Hubballi Tahsildar office shows how additional assignments such as SIR can affect routine government administration. Once a major special duty consumes staff time, offices may need additional working hours to prevent everyday files from building up.

For now, the Sunday effort has helped the staff work through part of the pending workload. The focus will now return to regular office responsibilities alongside the continuing duties connected with the voter revision process.
