CBSE Class 10 12 Exam: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 and 12 board examinations for 2026 are expected to start in mid-February 2026. A minimum of 75% attendance is mandatory for students of CBSE Class 10 and 12 to be eligible for the 2026 board examinations. The CBSE has reasserted this rule, which is based on Rules 13 and 14 of its Examination Bye-Laws.

The attendance requirement is intended to curb the practice of “dummy candidates” and promote academic discipline. The board has also issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for schools to follow.

Attendance will be calculated up to January 1 of the academic year.

Students and their parents must be informed about the attendance policy at the start of the session. In cases where a student’s attendance falls below the threshold, schools are required to send written warnings to parents.

The board may offer a relaxation of up to 25% in attendance for specific, valid reasons. These include:

Prolonged illness: Requires a medical certificate from a government-approved doctor and other medical reports.

Family bereavement: Requires valid documents like a death certificate.

Participation in recognized sports events: Requires a certificate from the appropriate sports authority.

Consequences of Non-Compliance:

CBSE is taking a strict stance against non-compliance and manipulation of attendance records. The board has stated that it will conduct surprise inspections at affiliated schools to verify attendance data.

Schools found to have incomplete or manipulated records may face disciplinary actions, including disaffiliation. Students who do not meet the attendance criteria and do not have a valid reason for exemption will be barred from appearing in the board exams.
