Travel guidelines: India issues new travel advisory for Indians

Travel guidelines: The Indian Embassy in Iran has issued a fresh travel advisory for its citizens. This advisory was released on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. This advisory reflects the serious security concerns in the region following the recent flare-up in hostilities, even though a ceasefire has been announced.

The US has also issued similar warnings to its citizens regarding travel to Iran.

Key points of the advisory:

Avoid Non-Essential Travel: Indian nationals are strongly advised to “carefully consider the evolving situation before undertaking non-essential travel to Iran.”

Monitor Developments: Those already in Iran are urged to continue monitoring the latest regional developments and follow updated advisories issued by Indian authorities.

Consider Returning: Indian nationals currently in Iran who are interested in leaving the country may avail the commercial flight and ferry options that are currently available. While no immediate evacuation call has been made, the embassy is flagging exit routes.

Reason for Advisory: The advisory comes amid heightened tensions and recent military escalations involving Iran, Israel, and the United States over the past several weeks. This includes “Operation Rising Lion” launched by Israel targeting Iranian nuclear and military sites, and “Operation Midnight Hammer” by the US striking Iranian facilities. Iran has retaliated with missile strikes.

Stay Connected: The embassy has also asked Indian citizens in Iran to stay connected through official social media channels for updates.
