Bengaluru Murder Case: FIR filled against BJP MLA

Bengaluru Murder Case: An FIR has been filed against BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj in connection with the murder of Bengaluru rowdy-sheeter Shivaprakash alias Biklu Shiva.

According to the reports, Shivaprakash’s mother, Vijayalakshmi, filed a complaint with the Bharathinagar police station, leading to the registration of the case.

Her complaint reportedly states that Shivaprakash had previously expressed receiving death threats from former minister Byrathi Basavaraj, Jagadish, and others. The motive for the murder is suspected to be related to a land dispute in Kithakanur.

It’s important to note that Shivaprakash himself was a rowdy-sheeter with a history of criminal involvement, including a murder case from 2020. The current investigation is ongoing.

Byrathi Basavaraj is a prominent Indian politician from Karnataka, currently serving as a 4th-time MLA. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He served as the Minister of Urban Development (excluding Bengaluru) in the B.S. Yediyurappa cabinet.

 2013 & 2018: He was first elected as an MLA from the Krishnarajapura (K.R. Puram) constituency in the 2013 and 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections as a member of the Indian National Congress.

2019 By-election: In 2019, he resigned from the Congress and contested the by-election from the same constituency as a BJP candidate, winning with a significant margin. This move was part of a larger defection that led to the collapse of the Congress-JD(S) coalition government.
