FASTag Annual Pass Crosses One Crore Users in India
FASTag Annual Pass has crossed one crore users within a year, offering frequent highway travellers a convenient toll payment option for private vehicles across India.
The FASTag Annual Pass has crossed the one crore user mark in India, highlighting the growing use of prepaid toll payment options among private vehicle owners. The pass was introduced last year for people who regularly travel on national highways.
The facility is available for eligible non commercial vehicles such as cars, jeeps and vans that already have a FASTag linked to the vehicle registration. Instead of adding money to the FASTag wallet for every journey, users can pay a fixed amount for the annual pass.
For the financial year 2026 to 2027, the FASTag Annual Pass costs ₹3,075. The earlier price was ₹3,000. The pass remains valid for one year or 200 toll plaza crossings, whichever comes first.
Activation can be completed through the Rajmargyatra application or the National Highways Authority of India website. Once activated, the annual pass is linked with the vehicle’s existing FASTag and is generally activated within two hours.
The one crore user milestone also comes as authorities are working on the next stage of electronic toll collection. One of the technologies being introduced is the Multi Lane Free Flow system, which is designed to reduce dependence on conventional physical toll booths.
Under the MLFF system, vehicles can be identified using FASTag, automatic number plate recognition cameras and artificial intelligence based systems. The applicable toll can then be collected electronically without requiring vehicles to stop at a traditional toll plaza.
The system is expected to reduce congestion around toll collection points and can also help cut waiting time and fuel consumption. Approval has reportedly been given for MLFF implementation at 17 toll plazas, with the system already operational at some locations.
For people who frequently use national highways, the annual pass can simplify repeated toll payments by replacing individual transactions with a single upfront payment. The value of the pass, however, depends on how frequently an eligible vehicle uses toll roads and reaches the applicable crossing limit.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has also stated that under existing rules, the normal distance between two toll plazas on the same road is 60 kilometres. However, the distance can vary depending on local conditions and infrastructure requirements.
With FASTag already established as the main electronic toll payment system, the growing adoption of the annual pass and the planned expansion of free flow tolling point towards a broader shift towards automated highway payments.
