Iran President claims 14 million ready to sacrifice lives amid escalating conflict

Tehran: Amid rising tensions in the ongoing West Asia conflict, Masoud Pezeshkian has made a strong and provocative statement, claiming that millions of Iranians are prepared to sacrifice their lives for the nation.

In a post on the social media platform X, Pezeshkian said, “More than 14 million Iranians are ready to lay down their lives. I too am ready to sacrifice my life for Iran.” His remarks come at a time when tensions between Iran and the United States continue to intensify.

The statement was made in response to warnings issued by Donald Trump, who had threatened military strikes on Iran’s critical infrastructure if the country does not lift restrictions related to the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Trump had earlier warned that energy facilities and key bridges could be targeted if Iran fails to comply.

The figure of 14 million volunteers mentioned by the Iranian President is reportedly double the earlier estimates shared by state-run media. The numbers are believed to include individuals who have expressed willingness to support the country through campaigns and mobilisation efforts since the conflict began.

Iran, a nation of nearly 90 million people, has been facing internal challenges as well. In recent years, the government has dealt with widespread protests, some of which were met with force, leading to public unrest. However, the latest statement by the President appears aimed at projecting national unity in the face of external threats.

Political analysts suggest that such rhetoric is often used during times of conflict to boost morale and send a message of resilience to adversaries. However, critics argue that these statements could further escalate tensions in an already volatile region.

The ongoing Iran–Israel conflict has already raised concerns globally, with fears of a broader war affecting international trade and oil supplies. The Strait of Hormuz, in particular, remains a crucial chokepoint for global oil shipments, making any escalation in the region a matter of global significance.

As diplomatic efforts continue behind the scenes, statements like these highlight the intensity of the situation and the growing uncertainty surrounding the conflict’s future trajectory.
