Demand for separate state for North Karnataka, MLA writes letter to CM

North Karnataka: Bharamagouda (Raju) Kage, the Congress MLA from the Kagwad constituency in Belagavi, has formally written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah demanding separate statehood for North Karnataka.

The demand has resurfaced with renewed force ahead of the upcoming winter session of the state legislature, which is traditionally held in Belagavi.

Alleged continuous injustice, regional imbalances, and “step-motherly treatment” towards the North Karnataka region since the unification of the state, citing a need for administrative efficiency and balanced development.

Proposed Districts (15 total):

Bidar

Kalaburagi (Gulbarga)

Vijayapura (Bijapur)

Yadgir

Bagalkot

Belagavi

Dharwad

Gadag

Koppal

Raichur

Uttara Kannada

Haveri

Vijayanagara

Ballari (Bellary)

Davanagere

The MLA is also the chairman of the North-West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) and has been vocal about the perceived lack of development funds in his region. This is a recurring political demand that highlights the persistent economic and developmental disparity between the northern and southern parts of Karnataka.

MLA Raju Kage, who has written a letter to the President, Prime Minister and Karnataka Chief Minister to make North Karnataka a state, has requested that North Karnataka, which consists of 15 districts, be separated. He has alleged in the letter that injustice is being done to the districts of North Karnataka in terms of development and that a stepmotherly attitude is being shown to discriminate.

In this way, MLA Kage has supported the struggle of the Uttara Karnataka Horata Samiti and said that he will discuss this issue in the winter session as well. After the death of the late Umesh Katti, the cry for a separate state for North Karnataka has now been expressed by the close MLA Kaage.
