Karnataka Cabinet Expansion Put on Hold? Ministerial Aspirants Left Disappointed

As a result, the Congress high command is likely to hold another round of discussions next week, where the cabinet expansion is expected to be finalized.

The much-awaited expansion of the Karnataka Congress government’s cabinet is yet to receive final approval. Despite a series of high-level meetings held in New Delhi over the past two days, no final decision was reached. Karnataka Cabinet Expansion Put on Hold? Ministerial Aspirants Left Disappointed.

As a result, the Congress high command is likely to hold another round of discussions next week, where the cabinet expansion is expected to be finalized. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC President B.K. Hariprasad, and AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal held multiple rounds of discussions in Delhi.

However, consensus could not be reached on the final list of ministers. While several ministerial aspirants were eagerly awaiting clarity, they have once again been left disappointed. One of the key reasons for the delay is said to be the absence of AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge from the full round of meetings. Kharge had travelled to Bengaluru for a personal engagement and is expected to return to New Delhi on Sunday.

High Command Likely to Meet Again Next Week:

Following Kharge’s return to Delhi, the Congress leadership is expected to convene another meeting with Karnataka leaders on Monday or Tuesday. The high command is likely to give its final approval to the cabinet expansion during this meeting.

More Opportunities for New Faces:

According to party sources, the Congress high command has laid down certain key guidelines for the cabinet expansion. Around 60% of the new ministerial berths are likely to be allocated to fresh faces. The leadership is also focusing on ensuring greater representation for SC, ST, and OBC communities to maintain social balance within the cabinet.

Based on these guidelines, the state leadership is expected to prepare a revised list of prospective ministers and submit it for the high command’s approval.

Political Strategy Also a Key Factor:

Sources indicate that the Congress is not treating the cabinet expansion merely as a process of filling vacant positions. With upcoming elections in mind, the party is carefully balancing administrative efficiency, social representation, and political strategy before taking a final call.

Overall, while the initial round of meetings in Delhi ended without a concrete outcome, next week’s discussions are expected to play a decisive role in determining the future of the Karnataka cabinet expansion.
