CM Change in Karnataka: Randeep Singh Surjewala made big statement

CM Change in Karnataka: Speculation about a Chief Minister change in Karnataka has recently resurfaced, primarily fueled by the approaching halfway mark of the current government’s five-year term (elected in May 2023). CM Change in Karnataka: Randeep Singh Surjewala made big statement.

Randeep Singh Surjewala, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge of Karnataka, has firmly ruled out any immediate change in the state’s Chief Minister.

The “warning” refers to the party leadership’s strict stance against public discussion of a leadership change. He categorically stated that the ongoing consultations with MLAs were for reviewing the performance and implementation of the government’s guarantee schemes, not for taking opinions on a leadership change. He summarized his position by saying the answer is “clearly ‘no’ in one word.”

Both Surjewala and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar have warned Congress members, particularly MLAs who have publicly advocated for Shivakumar to take over as CM, against making such public statements, emphasizing the need for party discipline.

Shivakumar, for instance, mentioned that he would issue a notice to an MLA who publicly pushed for his elevation to the CM’s post, reiterating that the focus is on strengthening the current government under Siddaramaiah.

The speculation around a leadership change is fuelled by a perceived power-sharing “pact” between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar (though never officially confirmed by the party) and recent comments by some Congress MLAs supporting Shivakumar’s claim to the top post.

In short, Surjewala’s statement was a clear directive from the High Command to stop the internal debate on the CM’s position and to maintain party discipline.
