Maharashtra CM: Speculation is high regarding the next Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president, and as of early September 2025, reports suggest that the race has narrowed down to a few key figures, with Devendra Fadnavis. Maharashtra CM for national politics: Fadnavis may asked to step down from CM Post.
The current BJP president J.P. Nadda, has been serving on an extended term since his formal tenure ended in early 2024. The party extended his term to provide stable leadership through the recent Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP’s constitution mandates that internal organizational elections be completed in a majority of its state units (at least 19 out of 37) before the process for electing a national president can begin. The party is now close to meeting this threshold. The final selection is typically a consensus decision made by the senior leadership, with the backing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
As the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Fadnavis is a prominent party figure. Sources indicate that he may be asked to step down from his state role after the Bihar elections to take on a more significant national position. He is seen as a strong candidate due to his youth, organizational experience, and perceived confidence of the party leadership and the RSS.
A Union Minister and a Member of Parliament from Gujarat, Rupala is also a strong contender. His long-standing proximity to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his experience in various ministerial and party roles, including a previous stint as the Gujarat BJP chief, make him a trusted choice.

While Fadnavis and Rupala are leading the race, other names like Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan have also been mentioned as potential successors.
The final announcement is expected after the completion of the ongoing internal party elections and crucial consultations among the BJP’s top brass and the RSS. The timing of the decision may also be influenced by the upcoming Bihar elections.
