BJP revives Priyank Kharge’s education controversy, mocks his affidavit details

Bengaluru : Karnataka’s IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge has once again come under the scanner over his educational qualifications, a topic that had earlier stirred controversy during the 2023 Assembly elections. The state BJP has now reignited the issue, taking a sarcastic jibe at the minister through a post on its official X (Twitter) account.

In the post, BJP mocked, “Everyone says they’ll do engineering or medical after PUC, but Priyank Kharge says he’ll join SSLC after PUC,” insinuating inconsistencies in the minister’s declared academic record. The party also shared what it claimed to be a copy of Kharge’s election affidavit, alleging that his educational qualifications “change every year.”

Earlier, Priyank Kharge had personally clarified the matter when questions were raised about his credentials. He had said, “I was surprised to see media reports claiming I only passed second PUC. I studied Digital Animation, which is now recognized as a degree. I even ranked 13th at the National Law School and was one of the four MLAs selected to study the Scotland Referendum.”

However, information available on the Election Commission’s official website shows that Priyank Kharge had mentioned completing his First PUC at MES College, Malleswaram, in 1996. He also claimed to have obtained a professional certificate in Computer Arts and Animation in 1999.

The BJP’s renewed attack has once again brought the minister’s qualifications into public debate, with critics accusing him of lacking transparency and misleading voters, while his supporters insist the controversy is a political distraction ahead of upcoming polls.
