Bihar Election 2025: NDA projected to retain power as exit polls predict Nitish Kumar’s ninth term
Bihar Election 2025: The high-stakes Bihar Assembly election has concluded after two rounds of polling across all 243 constituencies, and political chatter is intensifying over whether the ruling NDA will retain power or if Tejashwi Yadav’s Mahagathbandhan will pull off an upset.
Soon after voting ended on Tuesday evening, multiple exit polls released by leading media houses indicated a possible return to power for the Nitish Kumar-led NDA alliance. According to the ‘poll of polls’ — an aggregate of various surveys — the NDA appears poised to cross the majority mark comfortably.
| Survey Agency | NDA | Mahagathbandhan | Others |
| Dainik Bhaskar | 131 | 112 | 0 |
| Matrize | 147–167 | 70–90 | 0 |
| Average | 140 | 90 | 0 |
With the magic number for government formation set at 122, the projections place the NDA well ahead of the Mahagathbandhan. The BJP–JD(U) combine led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the RJD-led opposition bloc helmed by Tejashwi Yadav were locked in a fierce electoral battle, making this one of the most closely watched contests in recent years.
At 74, Nitish Kumar faces mounting anti-incumbency after serving multiple terms as chief minister, while 35-year-old Tejashwi Yadav has campaigned aggressively on issues like unemployment and social justice. Adding intrigue to the electoral mix is political strategist Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj movement, contesting for the first time and expected to make inroads in select constituencies.
Political observers note that while the exit polls suggest continuity, Bihar’s electoral history has often defied predictions. “Exit polls give an early snapshot, not the final verdict,” a senior political analyst said. “The real test will come when counting begins.”
The Election Commission has announced that results will be declared on November 14, determining whether Nitish Kumar secures a record ninth stint as chief minister or if Tejashwi Yadav ushers in a generational shift in Bihar politics.
The mood among NDA leaders is upbeat, citing the Prime Minister’s rallies and welfare schemes as vote-mobilising factors. Meanwhile, the opposition remains cautiously optimistic, pointing to high voter turnout and rural discontent as signs of undercurrent support.
As Bihar awaits the results, the outcome will not only decide the state’s leadership but also signal the broader political momentum for national parties ahead of the 2026 Lok Sabha elections.
