Apple’s next generation iPhone lineup is already creating excitement even before its official announcement. According to the latest industry reports, the company is expected to introduce the standard iPhone 18 alongside the new iPhone 18e next spring instead of following its traditional launch schedule. The biggest rumored upgrade is a boost in RAM, which could significantly improve overall performance and enhance Apple Intelligence features.
Industry analyst Ming Chi Kuo claims that both the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e may arrive with 9GB of RAM, an increase over the 8GB memory expected in the previous generation. The devices are said to use a new memory configuration that offers better efficiency while providing additional resources for advanced on device artificial intelligence tasks.
The upcoming smartphones are also expected to be powered by Apple’s new A20 chipset built on an advanced 2nm manufacturing process. The smaller fabrication technology could deliver faster processing speeds while improving energy efficiency. Reports suggest that the premium iPhone 18 Pro models, including the Pro Max and a possible Ultra or Fold variant, may feature an even more powerful A20 Pro processor with notable gains in both performance and battery efficiency.
Apple is reportedly placing a stronger focus on artificial intelligence with iOS 27. The next software version is expected to offer deeper system level integration for Apple Intelligence, allowing AI powered tools to work more naturally across the operating system. Several advanced AI features require significant hardware resources, and Apple has already indicated that some on device AI functions need at least 12GB of RAM. This means the memory upgrade in future iPhones could play an important role in expanding AI capabilities.
Display improvements are also expected for the standard iPhone 18. While the screen size may remain similar to the current generation, leaks suggest Apple could introduce a slimmer Dynamic Island design. The smartphone is also rumored to feature a refreshed display panel for a more immersive viewing experience.
Connectivity may receive an upgrade as well. Reports indicate that the iPhone 18 lineup could include Apple’s second generation C2 modem with faster mmWave 5G support. The modem is also expected to improve location privacy by reducing the amount of precise location information shared with mobile network providers.
Photography is another area where Apple could make meaningful changes. The front facing camera is rumored to be upgraded to a 24MP sensor, promising better selfies and improved video calls. The company may also simplify the Camera Control button by replacing its capacitive touch functionality with a pressure sensitive design. Some reports suggest Apple could use a slightly lower specification display and a version of the A20 chip with fewer GPU cores in the standard model to control manufacturing costs while sharing more components with the iPhone 18e.
Alongside the iPhone rumors, Apple has reportedly increased the prices of several MacBook and iPad models in India and other global markets. Some premium MacBook variants have seen price hikes of up to Rs 1 lakh, while select iPad models have also become more expensive. The increase is believed to be linked to rising memory component costs across the global supply chain. However, current reports indicate that iPhone prices remain unchanged despite the adjustments to Apple’s other product categories.
Although Apple has not officially confirmed these details, the reported hardware upgrades suggest the iPhone 18 series could deliver better multitasking performance, stronger AI capabilities and meaningful refinements that improve the overall user experience.
