A major landslide has struck Kerala’s Wayanad district, raising fears that several workers may be trapped beneath the debris. The incident occurred during the construction of the Anakkampoyil–Meppadi tunnel road, which is being built to connect Malappuram and Wayanad districts.
The landslide took place near the Meenakshi Bridge while workers were engaged in construction activities. A hill suddenly gave way, burying the worksite under massive amounts of soil and rock.
Five workers sustained serious injuries in the incident and were rescued from the debris by emergency teams. They were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, officials suspect that several other workers may still be trapped under the rubble, creating an atmosphere of urgency and concern at the site.
Fire and Rescue Services, along with other emergency response teams, are continuing intensive rescue operations. Heavy machinery has been deployed to clear the debris as rescuers work tirelessly to locate and safely evacuate anyone still trapped beneath the landslide. The rescue operation is ongoing.
