Karnataka cities see improved air quality after rain

Karnataka is seeing relatively comfortable air quality conditions today, with monsoon weather helping reduce dust and airborne pollution across several parts of the state. Bengaluru remains in the moderate category, while some smaller cities are reporting considerably cleaner air.

In Bengaluru, the average Air Quality Index is around 62 to 65, placing the city in the moderate range. Areas including BTM Layout, Basavanagudi and Banaswadi have recorded AQI readings between about 58 and 69.

Fine particles such as PM2.5 and PM10 continue to contribute to the citys pollution levels. However, the rainy conditions have helped keep dust levels under control, particularly away from busy traffic corridors.

The picture is even better in parts of the Malnad and coastal regions. Madikeri and Chikkaballapur are reporting AQI levels below 20, indicating very clean air. Belagavi is also currently seeing good air quality.

Meanwhile, Ballari, Bidar and Bagalkot are recording AQI levels broadly between 50 and 80, putting them in the moderate category.

Under the commonly used AQI classification, readings from 0 to 50 are considered good, while 51 to 100 fall under the moderate category. Based on the available readings, most parts of Karnataka are not facing any immediate major air pollution concern today.

Weather conditions will continue to play an important role in the coming days. Further rainfall could help keep dust and particulate pollution relatively low, while dry weather and increased traffic could push pollution levels higher.
