Weather Forecast and Alerts:
Today (Wednesday, August 20, 2025): The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places. There is a high chance of precipitation throughout the day. A Red Alert has been issued for neighboring districts like Thane, Palghar, and Raigad.
Tomorrow (Thursday, August 21, 2025): The rainfall intensity is expected to reduce slightly, with a Yellow Alert in place, indicating heavy rainfall in a few isolated areas.
Past Rainfall: The city has been battered by continuous heavy showers over the past few days. The Santacruz observatory recorded over 200 mm of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending on Wednesday morning.

Impact on Commute and Services:
Waterlogging: Many low-lying areas of the city are submerged in water, including major hubs like Andheri, Dadar, Worli, Chembur, and Sion. The Andheri subway has been closed due to waterlogging, and traffic is being diverted.
Local Trains: The city’s lifeline, the local train network, has been severely affected. Services on all three lines (Central, Western, and Harbour) are running with significant delays, with some being cancelled.
Road Traffic: Due to waterlogging and uprooted trees, road traffic has slowed to a crawl across the city, including on major arteries like the Western Express Highway.
Schools, Colleges, and Offices: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges. Government and semi-government offices were also closed, and private companies have been advised to allow employees to work from home.
Airlines and Travel Advisory:
Major airlines like IndiGo, Akasa Air, and SpiceJet have issued travel advisories for passengers flying out of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
Warning of Delays: The airlines have warned that due to intense rainfall and air traffic congestion, departures, arrivals, and connecting flights may be delayed.
Advised Action: Passengers are strongly advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport. They are also urged to allow for extra travel time to the airport due to severe road congestion and waterlogging on routes.
