IMD Issues Storm and Heavy Rain Alert for 17 States

Continuous heavy downpours are expected across the seven states, with the IMD issuing specific warnings for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for several parts of the country. A combination of monsoon activity and sudden weather changes is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds.

The national capital and its surrounding regions—including Jafarpur, Najafgarh, Dwarka, Palam, IGI Airport, Vasant Vihar, Vasant Kunj, and Ayanagar—are expected to witness sudden weather shifts, moderate rain, and thunderstorms within the next two hours, with likely wind gusts between 40 to 70 km/h.

Regional Rain Forecast:

1. Northeast India (Heavy to Very Heavy Rain)

Continuous heavy downpours are expected across the seven states, with the IMD issuing specific warnings for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

2. East India

Rain and thunderstorms are set to persist across Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal, with lightning and 40–50 km/h winds expected in Bihar and Jharkhand, wind speeds reaching 50–60 km/h in Odisha, and a heavy rain alert issued for the Sub-Himalayan regions of West Bengal.

3. South India

Monsoon activity is steadily increasing across the southern peninsula, bringing widespread heavy rainfall to Kerala and Coastal Karnataka, rain accompanied by thunder and lightning to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and rainfall with strong surface winds to Telangana and Rayalaseema.

4. North India (UP & Uttarakhand)

While both Western and Eastern Uttar Pradesh are likely to see light rain and thunderstorms with wind speeds of 50–60 km/h, the weather in Uttarakhand remains unstable for the next 24 hours with light to medium rain in hilly districts, prompting an advisory for Char Dham Yatra pilgrims to be cautious of potential landslides and road blocks.

The IMD has urged residents in affected areas, especially in Bihar and Jharkhand, to stay indoors during lightning. Travelers in mountainous regions should monitor road conditions frequently due to landslide risks.
