The Central Government has issued a public warning against fraudulent online advertisements claiming to offer loans of up to Rs 3 lakh using only an Aadhaar card. Officials have clarified that no such government backed loan scheme exists and urged people not to trust these misleading claims.
The fake advertisements, which are widely circulating on social media platforms and video sharing websites, falsely promote a so called Prime Minister Loan Scheme. Authorities have confirmed that these offers are completely fabricated and are being used by cyber criminals to target unsuspecting users.
According to the government, fraudsters typically ask applicants to click suspicious links before demanding small processing fees. They then collect sensitive information such as Aadhaar numbers, mobile numbers and bank account details. In the final step, victims are asked to share a one time password, allowing scammers to gain access to their bank accounts.
The government has also clarified that genuine government loan schemes are never promoted through such misleading advertisements. Citizens are advised to verify any financial scheme only through official government portals before sharing personal or banking information.
People are strongly advised not to click unknown links or disclose confidential details, including Aadhaar information, bank account credentials or one time passwords. Sharing such information can lead to financial loss and identity theft.
Anyone who has already shared personal details or suspects they have been targeted by this fraud should immediately contact the National Cyber Crime Helpline on 1930 or file a complaint through the official cyber crime reporting portal. Prompt reporting can improve the chances of preventing further financial damage and recovering lost funds.
