Eight Tourists Killed After Vehicle Plunges Into Deep Gorge in Himachal Pradesh

A sightseeing trip in the snow covered mountains of Himachal Pradesh ended in tragedy after a vehicle carrying tourists lost control and fell into a deep gorge.

A devastating road accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district claimed the lives of eight people after a tourist vehicle plunged nearly 500 metres into a gorge. Authorities said the crash occurred on the Bairagarh Sach Pass Killar route, a mountainous stretch known for its difficult terrain and steep slopes.

The victims were reportedly travelling toward the snow covered Sach Pass region when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The impact of the fall completely destroyed the vehicle, leaving little chance of survival for those inside.

Preliminary reports suggest that a tourist family from Bengaluru had hired the vehicle while visiting Dalhousie. The group is believed to have shared the journey with another family staying in the same area. A total of nine people, including the driver and two children, were reportedly travelling in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Rescue operations have faced significant challenges due to the remote location of the crash site. The steep valley, rugged landscape and limited accessibility have slowed efforts by emergency teams attempting to reach the wreckage and recover victims.

Police and district administration officials rushed to the scene soon after receiving information about the accident. Search and rescue personnel were deployed immediately, while authorities began gathering details about the passengers and circumstances leading to the crash.

Officials have indicated that some of the deceased may be tourists from Bengaluru, although formal identification procedures are still underway. Families of the victims are being informed as authorities work to verify all details.

Senior police officers confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident. Authorities are also examining road and weather conditions that may have contributed to the tragedy.

The accident has once again highlighted the risks associated with travel on high altitude mountain roads, especially in regions with challenging terrain and unpredictable driving conditions.
