Eight Members of One Family Among Victims in Deadly Delhi Hotel Fire
A devastating fire at a hotel in South Delhi claimed 21 lives, including eight members of a single family, while rescue teams worked tirelessly to save trapped guests.

A tragic fire at a hotel in South Delhi has left 21 people dead and several others injured, with one family suffering an especially heartbreaking loss. Eight members of the same family were among those who lost their lives in the incident, casting a shadow of grief over relatives and their hometown.
The victims were part of a family from Gurugram that had travelled to Delhi to visit an elderly relative receiving treatment at a hospital. Chartered accountant Vivek Agarwal had come to the city along with his wife Tarjani Agarwal, their two daughters, and several other family members. They were staying at the hotel where the fire later broke out.
According to officials, the family had booked two rooms at the property and was having breakfast when the blaze spread through the building. The fire proved fatal for all eight family members present at the hotel. The only surviving member of the immediate family is Vivek Agarwal’s 80 year old father, who was admitted to a hospital in Delhi.
The fire occurred at a bed and breakfast facility in Malviya Nagar. Authorities said the building had only one entry and exit route, which complicated evacuation efforts as smoke and flames rapidly engulfed sections of the structure.
Emergency teams, including firefighters, disaster management personnel, police officers and ambulance services, rushed to the scene and launched rescue operations. While many guests were evacuated safely, several others became trapped inside as the fire intensified.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as people attempted to escape from upper floors. Local residents reportedly spread mattresses on the road to help those trapped inside. Some guests jumped from higher levels of the building in a desperate attempt to save themselves.
One woman carrying her infant reportedly leapt from the third floor during the chaos and sustained a leg injury. Rescue workers continued searching the premises to ensure no one remained trapped inside.
Officials stated that many of the hotel’s guests were foreign nationals from Central Asia and Africa who had come to Delhi for medical treatment. Authorities have said the bodies will be handed over to families after the completion of DNA identification procedures.
The incident has sparked widespread concern over fire safety measures in accommodation facilities, while families affected by the tragedy continue to cope with an immense and irreplaceable loss.
