Constable suspended for sexually harassing rape survivor

Lucknow : In a shocking incident from Aligarh, a police constable has been suspended and booked after he allegedly demanded sexual favours from a rape survivor in exchange for registering her complaint, exposing a grave abuse of authority within the system.

According to officials, the 25-year-old survivor had approached the Quarsi police station weeks ago, alleging that a man had sexually assaulted her on the false promise of marriage. She had also filed a complaint through the Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS) portal seeking justice. However, instead of prompt action against the accused, she was allegedly subjected to harassment by a police constable identified as Imran Khan.

Police sources said the constable contacted the survivor over the phone under the pretext of gathering details about the case. During the conversation, he allegedly made inappropriate demands, pressuring her for sexual favours in return for registering the complaint and taking action against the accused.

The disturbing incident came to light after the survivor recorded the phone conversation, which has since gone viral. In the audio clip, the constable can allegedly be heard offering inducements, including gifts, and asking the woman to meet him in a hotel room. He also reportedly attempted to manipulate her by invoking religious sentiments and issuing threats.

In one instance, he allegedly told the survivor that they belonged to the same religion and promised to send the accused to jail if she complied with his demands. He further warned her against revealing the conversation, threatening consequences including false cases and legal action.

Following the incident, the survivor approached senior police officials with the audio evidence, seeking justice. Taking serious note of the allegations, Aligarh Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Kumar Jadon ordered immediate suspension of the constable.

An FIR has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation. Police officials confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway and strict action will be taken based on findings.

The incident has triggered widespread outrage, raising serious concerns over the safety and dignity of survivors seeking justice. It also underscores the urgent need for accountability and systemic reforms within law enforcement agencies to prevent such misuse of power.

Authorities have assured that the victim will be provided necessary protection and support during the course of the investigation.
