Woman gang-raped inside moving ambulance in Faridabad, two arrested
Faridabad: In a shocking incident that has raised serious concerns over women’s safety, a 25-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped inside a moving ambulance in Faridabad, Haryana.
The crime came to light nearly six days after it occurred, following a police investigation. Two accused have been arrested in connection with the case and sent to judicial custody.
According to investigators, the crime did not take place in a general transport vehicle but inside a private hospital-owned ambulance. One of the accused was working as the ambulance driver, while the other was employed as a helper.
The two allegedly acted in collusion and sexually assaulted the woman while the ambulance was in motion. After committing the crime, they reportedly pushed the victim onto the roadside and fled.
Police officials addressing the media on Sunday said the arrested men are natives of Mathura and Jhansi districts in Uttar Pradesh. “Both the accused have been taken into custody and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway,” an investigating officer said.
A video, allegedly recorded after the incident, has surfaced and is now part of the police inquiry. In the video, the survivor is heard stating that she had no prior acquaintance with the accused.
She claims that after offering her a lift, one of the men transferred ₹600 to her Paytm account while she was seated inside the vehicle. Soon after, the doors were locked and her mobile phone was snatched.
“There was heavy fog at night. I screamed for help, but no one came to my rescue,” the woman is heard saying in the video. However, police have stated that the authenticity of the video is yet to be verified.
Police sources said the woman is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital and is in a stable condition. Once her health improves, a detailed identification process and further questioning will be conducted to strengthen the case.
As per preliminary findings, the woman had visited a friend’s house in Sector 23 of Faridabad on the evening of December 29. While returning home around midnight, she first took an autorickshaw till NIT-2 Chowk and then proceeded on foot towards Metro Chowk, intending to hire another auto.
At Metro Chowk, the accused allegedly offered to drop her home and persuaded her to board their vehicle. Instead of following the route indicated by the woman, the accused drove the ambulance towards Gurugram.
Police allege that the sexual assault occurred during this journey. The victim was reportedly kept inside the vehicle throughout the night and was thrown out near Raja Chowk in Faridabad around 3 am.
The incident has triggered outrage and renewed demands for stricter monitoring of private ambulance services and stronger safety measures to protect women, particularly during late-night travel.
