Namma Metro Green Line Services to Change Temporarily for New Train Inspection on August 7

Thousands of Bengaluru commuters using the Namma Metro Green Line will experience a temporary change in train services on August 7 as the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited prepares to introduce new trains into its operational fleet. The revised schedule has been announced to facilitate mandatory inspections and technical evaluations before the new rolling stock becomes available for regular passenger operations.

According to the metro authority, the temporary service adjustment is being implemented to support the inspection of newly procured trains manufactured by CRRC. These inspections are part of the safety certification process conducted before the trains are officially cleared for commercial operations. Officials have appealed to passengers to cooperate with the temporary arrangements and plan their travel accordingly.

The change will affect only a specific section of the Green Line during the late evening. Train services between Yeshwanthpur and Madavara on the upward route will operate at longer intervals than usual. Instead of the regular ten minute frequency, trains will arrive every twenty minutes from 10.30 pm until the end of passenger services for the day.

Metro officials clarified that services on the opposite direction between Madavara and Silk Institute will continue according to the regular timetable without any changes. This means passengers travelling on the downward route are unlikely to face disruptions during the inspection period.

The revised schedule is linked to the integration of new metro trains that are expected to strengthen Bengaluru’s rapidly expanding public transport network. Before any train is introduced into passenger service, it must undergo comprehensive technical inspections, safety evaluations and operational testing. These procedures are conducted jointly by Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited and officials associated with railway safety certification.

The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety is expected to play an important role in the inspection process. The evaluation includes checking the performance of the trains, operational systems, signalling compatibility and overall safety standards. Only after successfully completing these inspections can the trains begin carrying passengers on the metro network.

Bengaluru’s metro system has witnessed remarkable growth over the past few years. As the city’s population continues to increase and more commuters shift from private vehicles to public transport, metro trains have become one of the busiest modes of travel in the city. Daily ridership has risen steadily, placing additional pressure on the existing fleet.

The Green Line is among the busiest corridors in the Namma Metro network, connecting several residential, commercial and industrial areas. During peak hours, trains frequently operate with heavy passenger loads, making additional rolling stock essential for improving service quality and reducing overcrowding.

The metro network currently extends over approximately 96 kilometres across Bengaluru. While the expansion of metro corridors has improved connectivity, passenger demand has grown even faster. Existing trains often operate at maximum capacity during office hours, resulting in crowded platforms and packed coaches at several major stations.

To address these challenges, Bengaluru Metro has initiated the process of inducting additional trains into the system. Around twenty one new train sets manufactured in China are expected to join the fleet in phases. These new additions are intended to increase service frequency, reduce waiting times and improve passenger comfort across multiple routes.

Officials have indicated that three of these newly manufactured trains are expected to be deployed on the Green Line after completing all required inspections and approvals. Their introduction is expected to enhance operational efficiency and support the growing number of commuters using this corridor every day.

The inspection scheduled for August 7 is therefore considered an important milestone in expanding Bengaluru’s metro capacity. Although passengers may experience slightly longer waiting times for a few hours, authorities believe the temporary inconvenience will contribute to better services in the future.

Metro authorities emphasized that safety remains the highest priority whenever new trains are introduced. Every mechanical, electrical and signalling component must function according to prescribed standards before passenger operations begin. Such inspections are conducted under strict regulatory guidelines to ensure reliable and secure metro services.

Commuters using connecting metro lines or planning onward journeys through buses, taxis or other transport services are also encouraged to factor the temporary schedule adjustment into their travel plans. Early planning can help avoid unnecessary delays during the affected period.

Despite the temporary changes, Bengaluru Metro has assured passengers that the disruption will be limited to one evening and only a specific section of the Green Line. Normal operations are expected to resume once the inspection activities are completed successfully.
