Three men arrested for harassing woman in Bengaluru; Video captures the ordeal
Bengaluru: In a shocking incident of harassment, three men were arrested by the Sudduguntepalya police for stalking and intimidating a young woman traveling on a scooter. The accused, including an 18-year-old garage worker and two 19-year-olds working in a poultry shop, were caught after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
The incident occurred on December 24, when the woman was heading from the Jayanagar Metro station towards BTM Layout on her scooter. The three men followed her on their bikes, harassing and intimidating her along the way.
One of the passengers, witnessing the harassment, filmed the entire episode and tagged the Bengaluru police on social media. The video quickly gained traction, prompting a swift response from the authorities.
Following the complaint, the woman was located and based on her statement, an FIR was filed at the S.G. Palya police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to stalking and harassment. Within hours, the three accused men were apprehended and placed under judicial custody.
The victim, who identified herself as an actress on social media platform X, shared her distressing experience. “Three unfamiliar men on bikes began following me. Initially, they followed me on a quiet, less trafficked road, but later, they continued to stalk me on the main road. Their behavior made me feel extremely uncomfortable and unsafe,” she wrote.
The victim further explained that as the men continued to follow her, she tried to slow down her scooter to assess if they would stop their behavior, but they kept pursuing her until she reached the Udupi Garden signal. “I noticed they were still behind me even at the signal. I immediately took a photo of them from the front.
When they realized I was taking a photo, they tried to escape, but one of them deliberately covered their bike’s number plate with his foot,” she added. However, despite their efforts, the victim successfully recorded a short video clip, which she later shared online.
The police have assured that strict action will be taken against the accused and have encouraged more individuals to come forward if they face similar incidents. This case has highlighted the growing concerns over women’s safety in Bengaluru, with authorities urging citizens to stay vigilant.
