Mother kills 6-year-old daughter for not speak in Marathi in Navi Mumbai

New Mumbai: A shocking and inhumane incident has come to light in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, where a woman allegedly murdered her six-year-old daughter due to dissatisfaction with her inability to speak Marathi properly.

The tragic incident took place in the Kalamboli area, where the mother strangled her young daughter, ending her life over what she considered a failure to meet linguistic expectations.

After prolonged questioning, the woman explained that her dissatisfaction stemmed from not having a son, and her frustration with her daughter speaking more Hindi than Marathi.

She also admitted to suffering from mental health issues, for which she was undergoing treatment. Initially, she planned to fabricate a story about her daughter dying from a heart attack, but police investigations quickly uncovered the truth.

The mother, a 30-year-old woman living in Kalamboli, had earlier claimed that her daughter had suffered a heart attack. On the day of the incident, the child’s grandmother visited the house but left before meeting her granddaughter.

It was only later, when the father returned home in the evening, that he found his daughter unconscious. She was rushed to the hospital, where the mother continued with the heart attack narrative. However, suspicion arose, prompting the police to launch a deeper investigation.

Rajendra Kote, Senior Police Inspector of Kalamboli Police Station, requested a special post-mortem to confirm the cause of death. The initial findings revealed that the child had been strangled. The police then took both parents into custody for further questioning.

After six hours of interrogation, the woman confessed to strangling her daughter with her own hands, and she was subsequently arrested. The woman, who holds a degree in science, had been married to her husband, an IT engineer, since 2017. Two years later, they had a daughter.

According to police officials, the child had always struggled to speak Marathi and often spoke in Hindi, which led to her mother’s growing anger and frustration. Despite this, the husband reportedly wanted a daughter and was content with the child’s speech, but the mother’s dissatisfaction grew.

Authorities also revealed that the woman had been battling mental health issues and had been seeking treatment for some time. This incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many questioning the extent of emotional and psychological stress that can lead to such horrific acts.
