Kantara Chapter 1: Multiple sources and trade reports indicate that the digital rights for the upcoming film Kantara: Chapter 1 have been acquired by Amazon Prime Video for a reported sum of Rs 125 crore. Kantara: Chapter 1 earn nearly Rs 200 crore before movie release.
Amazon Prime Video has reportedly acquired the post-theatrical digital rights for the film for a staggering Rs 125 crore. This deal alone has allowed the film to recover its reported budget of Rs 125 crore. There are reports that the Telugu theatrical rights for the film were sold for Rs 100 crore. Report says that Kantara: Chapter 1 earn total Rs 225 crore.

It is important to note that these are reported figures and official confirmation from the producers may be different. This is a significant deal for a Kannada-origin film, and it is considered one of the highest-ever OTT rights acquisitions for a film from the industry, second only to KGF: Chapter 2.
The deal reportedly includes streaming rights for all languages after the film’s theatrical release. This pre-release business has allowed the film to reportedly recover its production budget of Rs 125 crore even before its release.
This makes it one of the most expensive Kannada films ever made. The film is a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, which was made on a much more modest budget of around Rs 15-16 crore. Kantara: Chapter 1 is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 2, 2025.

The film will also have paid premieres on October 1, 2025, a day before its official release. The film Kantara (2022) was a massive box office success, with a reported worldwide gross collection of over Rs 400 crore. The film crossed the Rs 400 crore mark globally. Some reports suggest it even reached around Rs 450 crore.
It was made on a very modest budget of around Rs 16 crore, making it one of the most profitable Indian films of 2022. The film’s total net collection in India was around Rs 309 crore. Kantara performed exceptionally well in its home state, becoming the highest-grossing Kannada film in Karnataka by surpassing KGF: Chapter 2.
Its reported gross collection in the state was over Rs 175 crore. The dubbed versions also contributed significantly to the total, with the Hindi version alone earning over Rs 80 crore.
