Kantara Chapter 1 Ban in Kerala! Film Exhibitors reaction

Kantara Chapter 1 Ban: As of now, “Kantara Chapter 1” is not officially “banned” by the government of Kerala. However, its release in the state is in jeopardy due to a significant dispute over revenue sharing.

The Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK), a powerful association of theater owners in the state, has announced that its member theaters will not screen the film. This decision is due to a disagreement with the film’s Kerala distributor, Prithviraj Productions.

The distributor is reportedly demanding a 55% share of the film’s box office collections for the first two weeks, a term that FEUOK finds unacceptable. FEUOK’s standard practice is a 50% revenue share for films from other languages.

The organization’s president, K. Vijayakumar, has stated that while they have previously granted a 55% share in special cases (like during the pandemic), they are not willing to do so now. He has also expressed concern that Malayalam producers do not get a similar share when their films are released outside of Kerala.

Discussions are reportedly ongoing between the distributor and the theater association to resolve the matter before the film’s scheduled release on October 2, 2025.
