Victim writes to PM alleging bias in probe against Congress leader in Chikkamagaluru assault case

According to the complaint, the accused attacked the couple after being asked to vacate the rented house. The situation reportedly escalated quickly, leading to a violent assault inside the residence.

Chikkamagaluru: Allegations of police inaction and political interference have surfaced in an assault case involving a Congress leader, after the victim approached Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking justice.

The case pertains to an attack allegedly carried out by Congress leader Rahil Sharif on party’s women’s unit state secretary Chetana and her husband. The incident took place on the night of February 28 at a Housing Board residence in Chikkamagaluru.

According to the complaint, the accused attacked the couple after being asked to vacate the rented house. The situation reportedly escalated quickly, leading to a violent assault inside the residence.

Following the attack, Rahil Sharif allegedly went absconding and attempted to flee towards Nepal. A special police team was formed under the district Superintendent of Police to trace and arrest him.

The accused was eventually apprehended in Ajmer, Rajasthan, while trying to escape. Police sources confirmed that he was taken into custody after an intensive search operation.

Despite the arrest, Chetana has raised serious concerns over the manner in which the investigation is being conducted. She has alleged that the police are not taking strict action against the accused due to his political connections.

In her letter to the Prime Minister, she claimed that instead of being interrogated rigorously, Rahil Sharif was admitted to a government hospital, which she described as an attempt to shield him.

The letter also contains controversial allegations, including claims about objectionable content on the accused’s mobile phone and alleged attempts to exploit women. She has urged the central government to intervene and conduct an independent probe.

Chetana has also requested security for herself and her family, stating that she fears retaliation. She pointed out that the accused had been involved in previous incidents as well.

The case has sparked a political debate, as both individuals are associated with the same party. Critics have questioned the fairness of the investigation under such circumstances.

So far, there has been no detailed clarification from the police regarding the allegations of bias. The incident has intensified demands for transparency and accountability in handling sensitive cases involving political figures.

The controversy continues to grow, with public and political pressure mounting for a fair investigation.
