Tragic accident claims two lives near Chikkaballapur

Chikkaballapur : A devastating road accident near Shettigere Cross in Chikkaballapur taluk has claimed the lives of two people, while another person is battling for life. The mishap occurred when a speeding car rammed into a container truck from behind, resulting in a fatal collision.
The deceased have been identified as Rakshitha Reddy (28) and her relative Pavan Reddy (30), who died on the spot due to the impact of the crash. Rakshitha’s husband, Rajashekar Reddy, sustained critical injuries and has been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Peresandra Police Station, where a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
According to preliminary reports, Rakshitha and her husband had tied the knot just five months ago and were working as software engineers in Bengaluru. The couple, along with their relative, was reportedly travelling to their native place in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh when the accident occurred. The exact cause of the collision is yet to be determined, but police suspect over-speeding or driver negligence may have contributed to the tragedy.
Eyewitnesses stated that the impact of the crash was so severe that the car was badly mangled, leaving the occupants trapped inside. Locals rushed to the spot and alerted the police, who arrived promptly and shifted the injured to the hospital.
In a separate incident on the same day, a series of accidents were reported on National Highway 44 near the Chikkaballapur bypass, which connects Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The mishap involved two cars, two lorries, and a tanker. A cement tanker reportedly overturned on the roadside, leading to traffic disruption for several hours.
Fortunately, passengers in the vehicles involved in the pile-up escaped with minor injuries. Traffic police rushed to the scene and managed to clear the congestion, restoring vehicular movement after some time.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution while driving, especially on highways, where high speeds often lead to fatal consequences. The back-to-back accidents have once again highlighted the urgent need for stricter enforcement of road safety measures to prevent such tragic incidents.
