Minors test positive for ganja in Murdeshwara stone-pelting case

Karwar: A new twist has emerged in the stone-pelting incident targeting Hindu households in Murdeshwara, with medical tests confirming that the seven detained minors had consumed ganja prior to the attack, police said.

The juveniles were subjected to medical examination at the Bhatkal Government Hospital following their detention. Reports confirmed the presence of cannabis in their system. Based on preliminary findings, police have also registered cases against the parents of the minors for allegedly allowing them to use motorcycles despite being underage.

The incident occurred on Monday night in Bailur locality of Murdeshwara. According to police, a group of seven minors arrived on three motorcycles and allegedly hurled stones at select Hindu houses along the Tengar Road stretch.

The sudden attack created panic in the area, though no serious injuries were reported. Local youths at the spot managed to apprehend two of the accused and handed them over to the Murdeshwara Police Station.

Acting swiftly on the information, police tracked down and detained the remaining minors. Authorities are now probing whether the act was premeditated and what prompted the juveniles to target specific houses. Investigators are also examining possible external influences and the role of substance abuse in the incident.

Members and activists of Hindu organisations rushed to the police station soon after the incident, demanding strict action against those involved. Superintendent of Police M. Narayana visited the spot to assess the situation and review the law-and-order measures in place.

Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the attack and ensure such incidents do not recur.
